# Dropdown

This operation will add a dropdown box to the current [Form Container](/actions-and-operations/forms/form-container.md) action. The field will allow the user to select a value from a list of possible values.

### Settings

The action uses the following settings:

| Setting         | Description                                                                                             | [Parsed](/actions-and-operations/dynamic-parsing.md) |
| --------------- | ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- | ---------------------------------------------------- |
| Label           | The text that should be displayed beside the field.                                                     | :white\_check\_mark:                                 |
| Items           | The items to display in the list. Each line in the text will be translated to an entry in the dropdown. | :white\_check\_mark:                                 |
| Selected Value  | The default selected value of the text area field.                                                      | :white\_check\_mark:                                 |
| Mandatory       | Choose if the field is required to save the form or not.                                                | :no\_entry:                                          |
| Target Variable | The variable that will receive the final value of the text area field.                                  | :white\_check\_mark:                                 |

### Remarks

This is a standard HTML Select field. UI layout may vary depending on the browser and on the platform used.

Each Item text and value can be specified by just using a vertical pipe for each element. If no pipe is specified text and value will be identical. Consider the list below:

&#x20;Using the above example for the items settings will generate a dropdown with the following data:

### Trigger

This action does not trigger any event.&#x20;

### Variables

This action does not return any variable but the one that have been specified in the *Target Variable* setting.
